Forming simulation for sustainable toolmaking

Using both forming simulation and geometry simulation to simulate our tools makes for a quality-assured and cost-effective manufacturing process at Lidhs.

 

Forming simulation shows deviations before production

By simulating each tool before production starts, we can effectively see what will happen at each step of the toolmaking process and prevent any deviations.

 

Software

Forming simulation takes place in the Autoform program, which provides us with information about the design of the tool.

 

Forming simulation indicates if the sheet metal has the right thickness and integrity

Forming simulation can, for example, show us if any part of the sheet will be too thick, too thin or if it will crack. By analysing the simulation result, we find out if the design is viable.

 

The tool is designed after approved simulation

Parallel to the forming simulation, adjustments are made to the sheet and the constituent parts of the tool in our CAD system until a sustainable tooling solution is achieved. When the simulation is approved, the tool design is finalised. Through this process, we save on time, materials and other resources, which results in more sustainable tool manufacturing and, in the long term, a more sustainable Swedish industry.
